I don't know in what ways BCSPL can reduce costs because I don't know the cost breakdowns. But, I can certainly make a couple without knowing the breakdowns of cost. Things like field costs, ref costs, insurance are non-negotiable. But,
1) do they need to rent a bus for the long trips? No. If not every parent can attend the game, kids can carpool.
2) Do they really need full away kits, training kits and home kits? Use the same shorts and socks for home and away games. Swap shirts when necessary if the kit colours are the same as oppo (but in an 8 team league you can probably arrange the teams to use 8 different colours). Training kits "professionalize" things but is it necessary? For large portions of the season the kids are wearing their training pants/jacket anyway. (and yes, I certainly have organized my teams to arrange for training kits and the kids like wearing them - but they aren't necessary).
These are not massive expenses that will all of a sudden make the league more affordable. But it's a start..

As I said those were some ways to lower the cost. I pointed out it wouldn't change the cost dramatically. But it's a start. SU has 3 training kits? Or do you just mean 3 kits total? A full kit costs around $100 now (lol don't quote me on that but shirt, plus shorts and socks, plus printing).....so x3.....

I am aware the biggest cost is coaching staff. I don't know if every club pays the same etc to their coaches so I am not touching that one because I don't have the info.

The registration cost is not the total cost. Travel for league play, tournaments, and the competition in the NorthWest Champs League (or whatever it's called) drives it up more.

Not to mention if you make the PTP - At least I don't think participation is free? It never used to be. Correct me if it is free now (it should be!).

I think the 3 SU training kits are 3 different training tops for different practice types, then 2 game kits plus the jacket, pants and bags...

From Coquitlam Metro Ford Website, provides a little more insight to what the cost are. When I think about it a little more, regular clubs face some of these costs but get to water them down over many teams, BCSPL franchises only have up to 12 teams to water down the administration costs this no doubt drives costs up...

What are the fees for the 2016 BCSPL Season?
Under 13 Boys & Girls & Under 16 Girls $1602.00 3 payments of $534.00
Under 14 to Under 17 Boys & Girls $1902.00 3 payments of $634.00
Under 18 Boys & Under 18 Girls $1362.00 3 payments of $454.00 
*fees are reduced to reflect uniforms & other apparel received during the 2015 intake season 
**fees are reduced for the Under 18 age group as the season is shortened. 
Fees are due December 15th (1st installment), February 15th (2nd installment), and April 15th (3rd installment).

I can only speak about the Surrey area re BCSPL , as i have placed players on BCSPL teams and know many players/parents who are still involved or were involved and have now graduated onto University scholarships etc. Even though cost is extremely high with travelling costs for parents on top , i have not come across any talented player who has turned down the opportunity to play BCSPL mainly at the 2 nearest clubs - SU & Coastal FC .
The truly elite level players from the Surrey area are playing BCSPL and i personally don,t know of any player or parent who has turned down the opportunity due to cost.
Any players who dropped out from the above 2 clubs was mainly due to a lack of playing time and even some of those went to weaker BCSPL clubs like Fusion & Fraser Valley .

But how many players don't even bother due to cost/travel? (I have known plenty - not Surrey). I do agree, most of the best are in the league. Reduce cost and you get an even bigger percentage of the best in the league.

*having a hard time engaging in an argument about the use of the word "elite" The only "elite" academies/players in North America are Galaxy, Dallas, Whitecaps, and a couple others (there's a u18 academy team that smashed it this year - no draws, no losses - and it isn't an MLS academy).

Based off that criteria I agree, I was comparing BCSPL to all other players below that. I like the terms high performance or rep over Elite as the word suggests a certain social economic status...

Fraser Valley BCSPL made a smart move setting up their Franchise @ Langley where they can attract players from the huge soccer base of Surrey and this was noticeable at the recent Whitecaps tournament with many players from Surrey on their teams.

There is conflict of interest if the chair of SMSA is still involved with BC Tigers . Metro applications also have to go thru SMSA so another conflict of interest. Meeting tomorrow to decide spots for fall 2016/17 season . There is no way that BC Tigers should be given Metro spots as the club they tried to takeover are not in full agreement with the takeover. BC Soccer should monitor the Metro meeting on May 4 put a freeze on any applications from clubs in conflicted takeovers
