    Really? I'll ask the twitterverse.

Nova Scotia announced their partnership with Whitecaps. In that announcement it said something like "as per the LTPD's/CSA's nationwide directive all leagues must be u13-15-17". I assume this is for the top league in a province. Doesn't make sense blending age groups at the gold/bronze/silver level, for example. BCSPL stops at u17 now. Which means u18 MSL should be quite good in quality (so hopefully they establish a university scouting tournament!).

Not sure why BCSPL wouldn't participate in nationals considering how much focus as been on the "Premier Cup" the last few years. Although Ontario's OPDL isn't participating in nationals, I believe. So BCSPL may be following OPDL's lead. The nationals tournament set-up does not follow the LTPD so that tournament is an example of CSA contradicting itself.

BCSPL is certainly not the only path to college or semi pro or pro. What BCSPL is , is the highest single concentration of high level talent in our province. As such exposure to Whitecaps and University scouts is greater. One can certainly break that mold.
As for national teams i believe it is the same , those in the HPP and Whitecaps get the greatest exposure and look, someone outside of that needs a person lobbying for them. Despite whatever structure is created if there is a player with a skill set greater than those already 'in the system' they will be found as long as someone is making the right calls.

In regards to Nationals, is BC & Ontario the only provinces who have PL teams enter the tournament? Whereas every other provinces would be entering metro caliber teams?

You realize BCSPL is just the new metro right?

It's just a title. The other provinces are sending their top tier teams thus the equivalent to BCSPL. I believe OPDL is not sending their teams, thus in theory Ontario is sending 2nd tier - but I imagine that's up for debate.

It was a good opportunity to watch some great quality Football [soccer] at Hjorth Turf today and girls finals tomorrow , and also to assess how the BCSPL teams/players compare to your own teams in whatever level you coach.

I watched the age group i,ve coached in for nearly 11 years [ 1999 borns] . Mountain v Okanagan was a very competitive game which Okanagan won 2-1 .

Main differences i noticed in this Final game compared to the Div 1 & watered down Metro were:

Apart from maybe 1 or 2 players , all were amongst the best players in their age group in BC .
A lot more skillful with great movement on and off the ball
    A lot more game sense
    Quicker passing & crossing
    Very quick & athletic
Great discipline with very few needless fouls

As one would expect from the top two teams in the province outside Whitecaps u18.

Fun for those kids to win but how about we post how many kids the Whitecaps sign from them instead? Don't talk to me about university - kids were going to university pre-BCSPL and there are no more universities now than there were 5 years ago (although there are some changes with CIS participants).

I know the Whitecaps selected 9 from the Mountain U14's alone in July.

I don't follow the league news announcements closely at all - but this is what should be promoted front and centre, in bold, on the BCSPL web site. Nice to celebrate league cup finals and what not, certainly. It makes the players, parents, coaches, and clubs feel good. But, should always be secondary to the much more important achievement of Whitecaps (or any other pro academy) signing BCSPL players.

As they were signed at u14, I hope Mountain isn't claiming development credit for the 9 players. Unless Mountain has a program that starts at 7-8 years old that I am unaware of? (I believe Surrey United has something like a BCSPL-track for young up and coming players, but since Surrey United also has a BCSPL franchise that's more easily done for them, than say Mountain which relies on feeder clubs). FWIW, I believe every BCSPL franchise should have a program starting age 7-8. Some sort of training/game program with their staff coaches, for free, and the feeder clubs send players to the BCSPL franchise for training, then back to their normal feeder club for training and games.

If some are already doing this I'd love to hear about it.

Explored in the Fraser Valley before, but tough to achieve/realize due to geography, training space and what not.

I'll be a broken record - what does it matter re: if Metro has a league cup? The most important piece is how many girls are moving onto REX and how many boys onto Whitecaps.

It's a bloody TEAM sport, let people celebrate success when obtained rather than being a wet blanket at every turn

I think it would matter to the Metro players but I think the A cup is fine as it is now and that is all that is needed.

As for the most important piece yes it is about moving onto the big and mighty Whitecaps and REX but it seems we are sacrificing the 99% that have no interest and no chance of that.

What I have seen since the creation of the Premier league is the sacrificing of the rest of the kids. TD's are moving kids to higher levels quicker than they should IMO. In it's short existence I have had nothing but a poor experience dealing with player selection and retention since it's inception. Back door deals with kids offering chances to play post secondary only to have them accept and then quit after their first year. TD's telling kids they should go for it after having spent 15 minutes talking to them on the sidelines and thinking they know what the kid wants. I as the coach would object and say the kid really is not into that( after having spent 100's of hours with them). The kid would tell me they felt pressured and did not want to let the club down so they went and hated every minute of it.

Youth soccer clubs are what they are. Let our youth play for fun and let the natural path for the best players flow to the top. We are forcing teams together just for the sake of it.

I've already celebrated their achievement as it's already been posted here. As a coach I know the fun in winning, and the heart ache in losing.

I don't think we're sacrificing anything. We owe it to 100% of the players to help them achieve their potential, regardless of what that potential is be it Gold, Metro, or the Bundesliga.

With respect to what you've seen in the Premier League - I have very limited knowledge of how kids and parents have experienced that league, but with everything one kids or parents experience won't be the same as someone else. However, what you described, is also what has been described to me and lead to talented kids quit the BCSPL.

I do agree, to a degree, with the "forcing" of kids into a certain league etc with how the BCSPL is touted as "the pathway". It's not often in life that there is just one pathway to a certain goal. Soccer is no different.

I didn,t attend to see how many players got selected by Whitecaps or Universities. I went to watch some high quality games and it was a great atmosphere with both sidelines full of parents/siblings cheering on their teams .:):p:):p
