CCB Suspension Crisis

Who did he win his protest against? Clubs appoint whoever they want as coaches - unless it's BCSPL where there are minimum standards for head coaches set by the league who has the right to tell CCB who to appoint as a coach for a team? (Or did MSL add standards this year?)

Correct and that was done at tryouts. Both coach and players.

Kids were told then to pay within the month if they wanted the spot. I was there. The issue is they wanted to remove people who they deem contrary to their agenda and this is not what soccer should be about. The selected team should stand. And I assume with msl the team lists etc would have been entered a long time ago. Big error on CCB part.

So coach was announced. Tryouts had. Team was picked. Then coach was "fired" by the club? So it wasn't so much the coach that protested it was the players and parents themselves that said they wanted the original coach? If so, that makes perfect sense.

But if I am set-up to coach a team at a club, and the club then tells me they want me to coach another team or no team at all - there really isn't any grounds to "protest" since this is all volunteer or honorarium basis (no contracts).

It was stated above that he protested to the District. Clubs use coach appointments to support their own agendas all the time. In this case, the schedule was set up, contact info was already posted for same coach as the last 3 seasons. So obviously something changed along the way.

The entire team was changed. Players and coach. No notice given other than an email a week or two out from season start.

My understanding is that a coach cant really be removed from a team without cause. If a club wants to remove a coach there is a process (disciplinary) that needs to be followed. These things cant just be done on a whim or there would be constant chaos.

Oh for sure there must be a reason. I get what you are saying. My point is, clubs decide who is coach. The district nor BCSA can dictate to any club who coaches what team - I would suggest the only exception would be BCSPL that has minimum coaching standards. So if a coach with the right standard was "let go" by a BCSPL team but hadn't actually done anything "wrong" they could appear and would quite possibly keep their gig, unless the guy who replaced him/her was more qualified.

WTH!? I am not disputing this guy's appeal - was just asking who he appealed to.

But this seems very odd and my guess is it was the parents who essentially backed the protest and got their kids back on the team (which is fair!). So this team played their first game - did they get the original players back, and if so, where did the "new" players go that were now released?

ODD ODD ODD.

I'm confused by your first sentence. I was just replying to your questions.

He told me specifically that he went to bc soccer with his complaint.

Now as for being odd , in the last year the powers that be in ccb have done many things to make sure that their interests are served. I have personally witnessed more than one coach be removed from micro teams (even during games) for no reason or made up reasons. I have seen all of the eagles coaches get selected as coaches for higher level teams. Some coaches were able to maintain their teams by moving to other clubs. Gurvinder is the leader of Vancouver United and has been neutral the whole time in the fight between bc tigers and the eagles. He is a good man and didnt deserve this. Neither did any of the players who went through the legitimate selections in march.

This isn't what soccer should be about and I'm sick of it. It's quite literally disgusting what is happening in Newton athletic park over the last year.

There is no regard for the spirit of the game only regard for power, how the rules can be exploited and the serving of personal agendas. From all sides.

easoccer - The Same stuff as u mention above goes on at Newton Athletic Park with Surrey Youth /SFC as well . Temple Utd teams and coach,s are favoured over there and most of the Temple guys are members of the Surrey Youth board.
There are so many conflicts of interest - Shaheem & Sim Sumra are on the board of the unsanctioned summer USSL leage and involved with BC Tigers & Temple Utd and involved with Surrey Youth /SFC and also on the SMSA board.
BC SOCCER NEEDS TO STEP IN AND STOP ALL THESE CONFLICTS OF INTEREST

Yes. It's a Newton issue. Both clubs. And even further out.

There is way too much money involved in the temple Leagues for any immediate change I'm afraid.

I would suggest soccer in Surrey has been an absolute mess for 15-20 years. Regardless of the win-loss record.

Ive been around almost 5, before that baseball. I moved be cause I wanted something a little more family friendly.

I have said many times I have several kids playing at different levels. I have a son that loves to play, but isn't the strongest player around.

Can you believe that in 5 years he was passed around from at least 6 teams? Both at SFC and CCB. There is no focus on developing players. Even at div 4 coaches would rather assemble a team than teach kids soccer.

Oh wait, you can't kick a ball, can't run? We don't want you. You're no good. We won't kick you out but well take your money, put you on a team with a coach who has no skill, no ability to interact with kids, and allow you to play 9 minutes out of 70. If you say a peep we'll pass you on to the next coach.

Anyway don't fret he's playing at CFC with a coach that plays everyone equaly and I couldn't ask for more.

Unless there's a serious behaviour problem, or injury issue every kid should play equal/half-a-game - I'd suggest at the BCSPL level maybe change that to 40%.

When I started coaching I gave time based on "merit". Whatever that meant! (at the time I thought I knew what it meant). I never understood why parents or players got upset. I then started coaching some 10 year olds and I told everyone "you all play half at least." 3 years of coaching kids that age, not a single problem. Took that same philosophy to 16 year olds for 2 years - not a single issue. Let the kids play.

I would figure the issue with the boys side is that SMSA has people on the board that are also complaintants and board members from other clubs who support the complaint (SFC). Coming to a fair conclusion will be tough. BC Soccer wants the district to deal with it. SMSA wants BC Soccer to step in.

"Innocent until proven guilty" but it seems SMSA decided " Guilty until proven innocent" . Now it seems the SMSA is using delay tactics -surely BC Soccer should step in and lift the ban

Surrey Youth Surrey FC has benefited greatly from the 5-6 weeks ban placed on CCB . During this time so many players & teams were enticed over to SFC . Some CCB teams were forced to pull out of the Leage prior to the season starting due to losing so many players. The club & individuals who supported the unfair suspension should be investigated ??
A boys U16 CCB team has still not played in Metro or Div 1 this season and its so unfair on these young kids to see them training all week but no games to play on the weekend.

SFC has benefitted as has PuFC. However most of the teams heading there did so under the direction of bc tigers, the main protagonists in this debacle.

Which group was the lesser of two evils? Who knows. I will tell you one thing CCB was much better prepared.

I agree though that there are many kids on both sides who were affected by this.

Hopefully a lesson can be derived from this, but I doubt it. Too mich at stake.

Why are they training all week if they aren't playing games? surely they are training because they are a registered team in a league, which means they have a games schedule.

???

There is a U16 team playing in Metro. Their club used to be CCB but are now listed as SFS Same team and coach as the previous 3 years that played under CCB. I gather this has to do with the coach's protest written about earlier in this thread.
I don't claim to understand all the politics involved within the many clubs in Surrey, but at the end of the day, these are adults making all these decisions and it's always the kids that are the most affected.
