There are currently 5 winter clubs in Surrey - SU , GAC, CCB,SFC & PUFC.
Word is that applications are in to BC Soccer for another club or 2 .
Whats your views on this & some ?? :
Does a new club get access to turfs straight away
After how long does a club get Metro spots
Any other pros of opening a new club

All it takes to start a new club is 4 teams, 44 players. (according to BC Soccer). Any schmuck can start a new club based on those numbers, although it doesn't make a whole lot of sense, unless you are running specialty programs of some sort.
Question is, what will this club offer that is not offered elsewhere? What would the advantages be to kids re: access to technical training, coaching options, levels of play? I can't imagine a newer, smaller club having the budget to attract technical staff.
They would have the same access to turf fields as any other user group. They would apply to the city / municipality with allocation requests, and the city will allocate field time based on whatever voodoo they use to come up with that.
I can't imagine a new, small club being able to host a Metro team...they would need to have the training, and quality of players in place.
Pros of starting a new club? You get to pick the jersey :p

Field allocation determined by the city.

Would they get MSL? No, not without some history or ability to prove they can provide a better product than the incumbents. BCSPL out of the question obviously. So you are left with new clubs filling gold/silver etc. In that case, yes you can definitely fit more clubs because what would happen is current clubs would simply lose players. It would balance out to being the same amount of players but less teams from 1 club. The last few years I coached in gold there were 5-6 CCB teams in my league - a bit silly!

Hope the people setting up new clubs are doing it for the players development rather than for EGO !!!
Will be a nightmare for the City Parks dept to share out field space between everyone. Any new club should be made to set up @ Tom Binnie cus parking & traffic congestion is horrendous at NAP every evening

New clubs don't equal new players - doesn't even equal more coaches. Field time and parking won't change. Just because a club is created doesn't mean all of a sudden hundreds of new kids start playing the sport.

Unfortunately there are many groups out there in Surrey who think they are better than the current clubs. How they measure that i don't know, just look through the age groups you will find same team name and same people involved through multiple years . These groups brainwash parents, hold player back from moving up , don't buy into the pathway, and for some its more about winning summer tournaments than anything else. these groups also move players up and down through their teams, always ' forget there cards, or rosters etc...

That said it could just be people fed up with all the crap, that is what started PUFC

The above problems do exist in Surrey and are on the rise and opening up new winter clubs in Surrey will only escalate the problems . With the increase in clubs in Surrey and all the potential problems , the SMSA the local Surrey Dist should be disbanded and BC Soccer should control /run Surrey Soccer themselves with their own staff.

Let's say PUFC changes name to BC Tigers. Presumably this would be the same BC Tigers that plays USSA/L. The problem with that is USSA/L is not sanctioned and PUFC is sanctioned. Thus the new BC Tigers would not be allowed to play in USSA/L.....??

Just to clarify the process. BC Soccer does not "sanction" clubs, as clubs are not members of BCSA. BCSA members are districts. In order to participate in BCSA competitions, use BCSA officials, get BCSA insurance, etc. clubs must be members in good standing of a district.

PUFC is currently member of Surrey District (and South District, I believe). They are well within their rights to change their name to BC Tigers. But that does not automatically allow them to participate in this USSA/L. In fact, a club is only allowed to participate in a league that has received district approval.

District approval is only required with inter-district leagues. Leagues operating entirely within a district can be arranged by those clubs - but all participating clubs must be members of that district.

Clubs that are members of districts are also not allowed to participate in any leagues/competitions that involve clubs or organizations that are not members of districts.

The important thing to remember that any referee found to have officiated a game in a non-sanctioned competition can be suspended (and I believe fined). Also, any team official who allows his/her team to participate in a non-sanctioned game is also subject to discipline by BCSA.

Like it or not, the system is stacked to be a closed shop. Soccer is the world's largest pyramid scheme.

I can confirm this statement to be somewhat true. It was written to me in an email that one of the persons involved, and who actually coaches a boys METRO team, who in fact put an application through for a new club. An odd part was that this was via the BCCGSL and not SMSA.

I wont provide further details other than to support the OP's statement. It's not really my place.

I honestly don't care if they sprout another 10 clubs at this point as long as there are good people running them.

I dont agree with adding a 4th club to newton, that place is already a furnace with 1, then 2, and now 3 clubs.

PUFC should be, at the very least, moving out of Newton and down to Tom Binnie. If they get some field space at newton on occasion, then fine, but SFC and CCB should be given priority there.

Any further clubs should find their own place. Maybe based out of Unwin or Goldstone. Maybe even North Surrey Secondary.

As for the Allocation of Turf, PUF was given turf right away. So that in itself should say something.

In the end, even if you dont get turf in Sept, they always re-do field allocations throughout the season so it should at least be fair by X-mas.

My daughter had a game at Tom Binnie over the past weekend and some of the CCB guys were moving a bunch of stuff out of the storage there. Coincidence?

This sheds some light on why the Burnaby/TSS/CCB league didn't happen. Not that it makes any sense.

But this is also sheds more light on the problem - districts have too much authority. Each district can pretty much do what they want based on how you wrote this. CSA needs to dictate how the football runs in this country and that needs to be administered by BCSA. If the CSA is OK with volunteer parents with, often times, little or no actual footballing development/methodology knowledge then we may as well pack up the shop.

Who owns Newton? The City or CCB and SFC? If it's owned by the City then any club has just as much right to using it as any other club.

Now, that said, don't get me started on pointy ball football getting prime turf time over the local soccer clubs in my city.....

I doubt it's a coincidence. Teams can rent space from the city wherever. Also, I have played tonnes of games against CCB clubs at Tom Binnie so if they have rented a storage bin there it makes sense.

I never said they shouldnt get field space. I am specifically talking about multiple Soccer clubs BASED out of the same park. Using the same clubhouse. Etc.

It just seems very odd to me.

That being said I know in the past Coastal, Surdel and even Surrey United have had practice time allocated there without issue.

Its getting worse in Surrey now - new clubs being created , player poaching , referees not submitting reports etc, clubs splitting apart etc. The split in the biggest club BC Tigers caused all this merry go round - Van Utd merged into BC Tigers a few yrs ago & 2 yrs ago left BC tigers to set up their own club again.
PUFC split away and formed their own club just over a year ago and now they are merging into the BC tigers again or being taken over. The soccer community in Newton cannot get on with each other for long - if they don,t agree with minor things they will just go and set up a new club whether they know how to run a club or not and amongst all these problems/movements the young players development suffers .

In politics and sociology, divide and rule (or divide and conquer) is gaining and maintaining power by breaking up larger concentrations of power into pieces that individually have less power than the one implementing the strategy.

FYI...

This is what his happening here. The Soccer community in Surrey might not be able to see this because they are in the thick of things but for an outsider it is clear as day.
