Why do we put our kids through this?

Should the south coast youth soccer season be from September to March?

Hi all. I'm new to this forum and while this is my 7th season coaching my kids teams, I've been pretty much insulated from the greater BC Soccer community. I'm sure the topic I'm about to raise has been discussed many times in many venues, including this one. If there's an existing thread that makes this one redundant, please point me to it. But can someone explain to me why we on the south coast make our kids play soccer through the only 4 months of the season that aren't suitable for soccer?
How can we make our 6 and 7 year olds come out and play on frozen gravel fields in November and December and then force them to choose between playing hockey or soccer?
After my U14 boys game today, the ref came by to tell us not to bother shaking hands with the other team because everyone was too wet and cold. From experience, I know that it's only going to get worse until the merciful Christmas break, and then in March at the end of this annual death march we'll all ask "Why doesn't the season start now"?

I've lots more to say about this, but can someone who's been around longer explain why our soccer season is in the winter?

By the time the games resume again on Jan 7th , its going to be nearly 6 weeks since any leage games were played. The powers that be should implement changes to the playing calendar ASAP .

Priority 1. Easiest, quickest and least expensive way to improve the soccer experience for our kids and the overall level of play in BC. More important than exclusionary high performance leagues, expensive camps.

What do "expensive camps" have to do with the BCSA/league boards?

I do agree - why games are scheduled at this time of the year makes no sense. Plenty of years there are no issues and the weather is OK. But also plenty of the years kids spend the game shivering or not playing at all due to the weather.

Agree , young players have been sat at home since the start of Dec and season will be over by mid Feb so lots of missed games , for parents who have paid registration fees.

Playing during better weather is def a better more enjoyable experience for all players especially the younger ones.
If the kids enjoy playing then naturally their game will develop quicker than if they are playing in cold wet weather.
BC Soccer should let the registered members[ coach,s & parents] vote on the the playing calendar:
1- Keep the current winter season schedule - Sep to late Feb .
2- Sep to April with a break all of Dec & Jan

Neither 1 or 2.

Option 3:
-Sep to Mid-November
-February-June 15 (depending on when school ends due to end of year school commitments).

Every so often we get a dump of snow in March but typically there won't be issues.

The June 15 end date would be when the coastal cup ends - so league play likely done around mid/early-April as Coastal Cup is 4-5 rounds.

they would have emailed the coaches who would have emailed their opponent.

Are we ever going to finish out this season. Some teams haven't played since Dec.3rd
It sure looks like we will miss next week as well as I do t see the snow melting by then and I doubt the city's are willing to plow turf fields a second time ( or at least the ones that were last time)

Starting Monday it gets a little warmer every day - snow/rain all week this coming though. surely freezing overnight. But the season will continue after this week normally based on the weather network report.

4d has 2 weeks of reg league play left, the league doesn't do make up games. Teams outside of the league cup finals & coastal cup play are basically done. But most districts haven't even got to playdown's play yet outside of the 1st Rd.

City of Surrey was showing all turfs closed yesterday afternoon around 3pm . Clubs should have added the fields closed /all weekend games cancelled on their websites. Takes only a few mins .
No do gooder excuses like many make on here " they are volunteers" .
If u are not capable of doing this or can,t be bothered then step down.

Not sure why LFC is so hard on their club's webmaster. Personally, I check the LEAGUE (note spelling) website, i.e. BCCGSL warned early in week about probable weather issues; updated league site when directors/board made the decision. Our club sometimes, but not always posts field closures. But the Tech Dept cancelled Friday evening's academy at noon, via email & on their (development) website.

More importantly, I expect the coach or manager to send notification of game cancellations. Both my girls' teams TeamSnap schedules were updated and that sent notifications automagically.

I am sure they would love your help. Eager to hear what club you are volunteering for next season.

exactly - coaches will pass along the message to their players and opponent. Why does the web page need to be updated?

southsloper , when we have weather like this in this modern age of computers/smart phones , parents /players first reaction is to go online and check the soccer clubs website for updates :)
