Hello BC Soccer Community,
My name is Adrian Sahagun, and I am the founder of DataDribble and product lead at Kaantera in North America. I would like to share a little about myself, the project ideology, and the promising future I envision for aspiring young athletes in Canada.
My soccer journey began in my home of Campeche, Mexico, at the age of four. A value and passion for soccer is deeply engrained within me, as well as my culture. However, during my most important developmental years as a young and driven athlete, I lacked proper training methodology. I also lacked a definite, well-designed pathway that could lead me to opportunity, connections, and success within the soccer world. Regardless of these roadblocks, I had both a hard work ethic and sheer luck on my side, which ultimately led me to success in both the Mexican Professional League (Liga MX) and the Canadian College Athletic Association (CCAA). But even with this success, I felt a deep dissatisfaction with the state of our soccer systems. I also knew that I was not the only athlete to have felt this way.
After three years of playing professional soccer in Mexico, three years playing in the VMSL, and five years of experience playing college soccer in Vancouver, I have had the opportunity to see the immense pool of talent and potential that we have here in BC. But unfortunately, these players will have minimal chances to succeed in this soccer climate. I believe that the experiences I have undergone have prepared me to guide and help players who were once just like me. Those who see the game as an important part of their lives, and those who strive for real progress, advancement, and prosperity in their soccer careers.
This is the story behind DataDribble, to provide soccer athletes with the tools and opportunities to succeed and thrive within a challenging system. Looking forward to the future, we aim to reform and evolve the soccer climate in Canada. Having the support of a revolutionary sports-tech platform like Kaantera makes this goal much more attainable. Kaantera will help us to integrate the community into one platform. Coaches can build personalized training plans, conduct monthly evaluations of athletes, and store player data from sessions, among many other features. For athletes, it will enable them to visualize their upcoming sessions, access their evaluation results, and have a personalized dashboard. And lastly, for parents, it provides a communication channel with us and information on individual player development.
Kaantera was originally designed to the specifications of Celta de Vigo to provide their team and its academy with a proper training methodology and developmental pathway for their players. Additionally, Kaantera is currently used by 14 professional soccer teams: Los Angeles FC, Celta de Vigo, and Club America, among others.
With my experience, tools, and networking, I am confident that DataDribble will provide a proper developmental pathway that offers different opportunities for every soccer athlete. To do so, I would appreciate your feedback on what we could improve in the player developmental experience in BC. I’ve attached a Zoom link that you can join on Tuesday, June 13th, at 7:00 p.m. Vancouver time so I can better understand what should be changed in the current system or things you would like to have in your current soccer clubs.
