Re-tiering

None of the clubs have schedules out for the coming weekend. I am assuming that this is an indication the tiering hasn't been published yet.

I could be wrong though.

EDIT: I retract this statement. There are some schedules out now.

Second year in a row. There are too many dominant teams that havent moved. Ridiculous.

My question stands then - is 4 wins from 4, with 30 goals scored and 0 against not enough to merit a team moving up? Just how badly did they have to humiliate their opponents to be moved?

I have a feeling it's not finished. I mean how could it possibly be? This makes no sense at all.

If that is in fact all the changes, then I truly question the process. Looking at all the age groups, there are teams thumping their opposition, or routinely being thumped. Why divide 2 groups (U16 and U13) into two tiers, yet leave one tier of 20 teams? (U15 Div 1)

Shaking my head here...

I talked to the district rep yesterday and was told that tiering is underway. At what speed the changes will be seen, who knows. There will also be a district meeting on Oct 21st to shore up any concerns the clubs may have or changes that need to be made.

It is definately a different scenario than previous years where we had it all completed immediately after thanksgiving break. Maybe there is a lot of debate going on behind the scenes.

Looks like we play until Dec 12 as well now. We had a team added to our division, removing the bye...to bad my guys already had the bye in week 2 :(

Re-tiering is definitely an interesting exercise. Not sure who is solely responsible for this process but can see there are holes in it for sure.

My issue ,which is similar is that there are currently 19 teams in the U15 Boys Div 1 bracket, and of these 19 teams, there are 6 teams out that will be playing one additional game due to no BYE games being issued. Those 6 teams will obviously have a better chance to succeed in the regular season standings, while being positioned with a greater chance of success for entrance into the Coastal Cup. Simply put, those extra 3 points for those six teams that have no BYES are going to have a increased chance to earn the 2 x wildcard spots given for the Coastal Cup.
In the spirit of equality, I've asked for the appropriate governing bodies & individuals to help address so there is a fair and equitable solution.

It could be as simple as determining playoff position by a Points Per Game calculation rather than by Total Points. This would negate the potential outcome of some teams finishing higher in the standings that did not have a scheduled Bye game.

Cheers,

Above stats are for U17 Langley Utd Smith

I posted about the 2 strong teams in U17 Div 2 - Langley Utd Smith & Ladner - both should be in Div 1 after Thanksgiving . Chilliwack should be moved down to Div 2 .

In 4 games Langley Smith scored 35 conceded 1 . I note they have been moved upto U17 Div 1 which takes this Div to 14 teams. They are showing 0 games played - hopefully they get a chance to make up their games as i think they are strong enough to finish in top 6 .

I don't think standings are relevant for coastal cup play downs, which ultimately lead to provincials, as those draws most likey happen now.

They will affect district Cup but the teams will be retiered for those in Dec and the district will most likely make some more silly decisions at that time.

If they don't get in the higher groupings the club is to blame for obviously putting them in the wrong division to start with.

And I think this is an issue with the technical directors or coaching staff. Either they are clueless or they want the easiest path.

League standing only factors into league cup groupings. Has nothing to do with district play-down except if you need a wild card to qualify. In the end, does it really matter?

Just because they moved-up the league isn't going to require them to play 4 or 5 more games over the course of the season compared to everyone else.

Upto Xmas the top 6 or 8 teams will go into the Championships series starting in Jan and the top 2 teams in that play in the final but both teams also qualify for the Coastal Cup so points are a big incentive leading upto Xmas.

There are three ways to advance to the BC Coastal Cup:
  1. Win your District Cup. Each district will qualify an entry at each age
  2. Win a 5 District Championship Series Group "A" wildcard spot.
  3. At U13, U15 and U17 the 2nd place team in Group "A" also wins a wildcard spot.

The entrance to make it into Coastal Cup has not really changed.
In terms of the Langley team example, I agree with easoccer comments for the most part in that the club & tech staff should have placed this team properly.
Unfortunately, it's their loss with is sad for them.....

Langley Smith U17 lost their 1st game 5-0 . Surrey Dist is the toughest route to qualify by winning the Dist Cup as there are prob 7-8 strong Gold teams amongst the 5 Surrey Dist clubs. The Surrey Dist Cup is more competitive than the Coastal & Provincial Cup

Langley isn't part of Surrey Metro and doesn't play in their District Cup.
