Is any of the timing & stuff you posted - published on a website perhaps? Or are they from personal conversations or private communications? I should say I've seen an early draft of the BCCSL rules/operating guide sent to clubs for feedback, but a lot was missing from that version, and there was nothing concerning when leagues would merge, etc...

Confirmed no MSL next season. It's folding into BCCSL, will be called Division 1 (or Gold or whatever name they choose). All the current divisions will be renamed - Div 1 now Div 2, Div 2 now 3 so on and so forth. The current MSL programs will continue to run as they are. There will be a promotion-relegation system, but how has not been determined.
[deletia]
All leagues will be running on the same rules, and yes girls will join the boys league to be under the same umbrella.

BC Soccer is getting more involved in league rules and league set-ups moving forward. I also think this is good in that they are the ones ultimately responsible for the playing experience, and development of players in this province.

Info shared by TD at a club coaches meeting (all coaches) after he was told this at a meeting with TD's. To me it also makes perfect sense - others may disagree and feel it's "change for the sake of change." I think having everyone under one umbrella is logical. Look at our friends directly to the south and the huge mess they have with multiple leagues....

I wouldn't expect BCCSL, metro etc to have everything lined-up until next summer at earliest - this guess is based purely on my experience in the game (and how last summer's re-org went).

they arranged the cup draw by geography? I am against massive trips for league play, but for the odd cup game - kids can drive a little bit more if that's the luck of the draw (same as Coastal Cup for example).
I coach at CMFC U14 and have been scheduled to.play Sea to Sky twice in a month in Squamish at 630 pm on a Saturday.....turns out the reason the games have been so late is the team requested these time because the families ski all weekend end don't want it to interfere with their days.....they openly admitted too. Inshook my head numerous time

I don't see a rule in BCCSL (boys) but BCCGSL (girls) require games where (long) travel is required to "end no later than 7:00pm unless agreed to by both teams", so lower mainland teams hosted in Squamish, should not normally anything later than 5:30pm starts. IMO that's still pretty late since ending at 7:00pm, then driving back to Coquitlam (likely stopping to get some supper on the way) would see you get home fairly late on Sunday evening, before a school day too...

Did you balk and ask for an earlier start times? It's reasonable to negotiate and complain to the league if they aren't reasonable, even if a "no later than" rule didn't exist.

Curious, when were your Squamish games? Dunno if they are like Whistler, who tend to experience earlier field closures (snow) than our "in-town" venues and end up with more home games at start of season, and more away games later.

With the amount of snow in Squamish, very little chance those games will get played before the end of February.

Hi there! Our games were Dec 2 and actually for tonight but it's been cancelled due to the snow. I will dig a little deeper into the rules to see about travel. I kid you not though that they openly admit that they have a team of skiers and this is why they book late games.....I was completely baffled at this. We asked about getting today's game moved to Sunday and the coach replied back within a minute saying he couldn't field a team ( I'm going to assume due to skiing) in Sundays. This team is based out of Whistler so I assumed that they have late time slots in Squamish due to having to take what they could get ....not the case.

Totally get it! I'm going to ask them to come to us on a Sunday as we can get fields and see if they comply. Traveling up there this time of year isn't safe and some people aren't equipped or comfortable with it.

An update, reading a *DRAFT* (i.e. subject to change) of the "One League" Operating Guide (merges in of MSL & BCCGSL).

In the League Scheduling section, the BCCGSL Guide's verbiage for traveling teams: "end no later than 7:00pm" and "to or from Chilliwack, Whistler, Squamish, Pemberton and Sechelt." has been replaced by 75 km travel (which is in the current BCCSL guide) and the phrase "are to be coordinated by the Districts involved in consideration of the interest of the traveling team.". So the game ending "no later than 7:00pm" will not be carried over as hard rule, but will become a "gentleman's agreement" thing I guess.

---cut-here---

12. League Scheduling

[deletia]

b) The League may schedule games on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.
Where there are teams travelling more than 75kms or that require a ferry for travel, no games will be scheduled on Fridays.

c) For MSL, no games must start prior to 10:00 A.M. unless both coaches agree to a change in time.

d)
Starting times for games requiring travel by ferry are to be scheduled between 12 noon and 2:00 P.M. unless both coaches agree to a change in time.

e)
Starting times for games between teams more than 75kms apart are to be coordinated by the Districts involved in consideration of the interest of the traveling team.

f) No Friday game may start prior to 7:00 P.M.

I would look into the league rules re: cancelled games. If a game is cancelled due to snow, and the opponent can get a field on the designated game day or the next day is that a forfeit if they say they won't come?

That team hasn't played a team above 7th in the division. See what happens when they play other teams near the top. Though 32 goals in 4 goals is a bit ridiculous you will find this in almost every division.

They just beat the second place team 7-0.

Current BCCSL rules don't require make up games of weather canceled regular season games. (A game can be canceled if both home grass & the designated alternate-to-grass (gravel) fields are closed/unplayable on game day). I believe the explanation is (some) districts just don't have enough fields to accommodate them. And, it's quite reasonable for the away team to offer a field to play the scheduled game, but the rules don't seem to require the home team to accept the away team's offer, i.e. risk a forfeit.

The new "one-league" rules (a draft) does have a provision for the away team to offer their home field if available, and there is "sufficient time" to play the same day, but doesn't require rescheduling to a future date. I interpret that to mean a refusal by the original home team to play at the away team's field would count as a no-show. But refusing to play the game on the "next day" would not. Like I said, this is in a draft, so could be re-written.

I would look into the league rules re: cancelled games. If a game is cancelled due to snow, and the opponent can get a field on the designated game day or the next day is that a forfeit if they say they won't come?

Sounds like they are then updating the rules to match was District 5 had for many years. Team A has to cancel, Team B can offer a field that say day and Team A then has to accept if it's offered. Although D5 did allow for Team A to pick a date in the future to host the game if Team B didn't have a field available on the originally scheduled date. Team A could pick a Sunday (if boys 16 and below) for example (thus the teams would likely have a game Saturday and Sunday that given weekend), which was reasonable.

Wow, just wow. Don't even know where to begin.

Do you believe it to be a negative thing that Metro is joining BCCSL? I believe the less umbrella's we have the better. This should also open the door to move team movement from div 1 to metro - particularly when metro teams are losing 6-0 every week for a season or two while a div 1 team is pushing or winning div 1 every year.

I'm speaking to the communication level. Why is this particular communication not found anywhere else, like, you know, on the "current" website for this league? I checked out a few of the district websites and nada.

New website by Feb 28th?

New Admin hire by Feb 28th? I've searched and I've yet to come across a posting for this position which leads me to believe it's a job already awarded to someone currently involved. Nothing wrong with that I suppose but it is the same-old, same-old.

Everyone should prep themselves for more chaos next September including the same excuses for issues being trotted out.

Rinse and repeat.

Yes those are things worth questioning!
