I think it will be pretty smooth. There will be, and have been, some growing pains, and some bruised egos along the way, but overall it's been very positive. All exec members are on the same page...more or less. Fingers crossed!!!

The issues in Newton speak to a much larger issue in that community that goes far beyond the world of youth soccer, that is for another forum ...

Absolutely it is this - which is why open boundaries at all levels can't be withheld simply because there might be issues in Newton, that really have nothing to do with soccer.

Same here, any petty squabbles are settled quickly. Sure, every club has their egos, their "cowboy coaches"...we're lucky enough to have decent communication lines btwn club exec, tech staff, coaches, and parents. Could it be better? Of course. Working on it!! :)

yes, this absolutely

How do you think that will play out with the merging of Tsawwassen and Ladner? Smooth sailing or growing pains?

I have no connection there at all, but from what I can tell this is the best possible move for the area - Langley could learn a lesson ;)

Boundaries are open now. Your kid can play anywhere they want now. If you are willing to travel and your child is of good enough quality to bump a local player. There is a limit though of I think 3 players per team? This is fair imho.

TSC and LSC merging is absolutely the best thing for the soccer community in South Delta. All 3 clubs voted over 90% in favour of the merge last year, and most of the parent / coach feedback has been "It's about time!". Looking forward to getting on the pitch, though, as an antidote to all the admin stuff.

You did have an association before though correct? South Delta United for the select teams?

I thought it was a max of 5 out of district players per team? Either way, I think the clubs most affected by the District Merger will be North Delta and the Newton clubs, at least on the boys side, as Scott Road disappears as a District Boundary. That will be the most player movement, I think.

Not sure from a girls standpoint, with SurDel in the mix.

I was just guessing, but if it's 5 players then it furthers my point. 5 players per team is enough to allow any disgruntled player or parent , even group of parents to go anywhere they like as long as their quality is sufficient.

We started that experiment 3 years ago, yes. The first year we did this was with the group I'm coaching now. Running combined Div 1 and 2 teams. Ladner Girls and TSW have been doing that for a bit longer. It got the tech staff from each club working together a bit more, so made the ultimate merger that much smoother.

I agree, the biggest concern is kids being pushed out of their local parks by kids from another area. a cap of 3 out of district players per team is totally fair. BCSPL has to be open as not every district has a franchise.

I know that we are bringing up a lot of negatives. But. There are very good people involved and for the most part they help balance it all out.

My oldest son isnt the strongest player. He started in u13. He has asthma his whole life. He was bounced around between 5 teams from u13 to 17. Last year he was ready to quit. I said lets give it one more chance. I moved him from Newton to Coastal. He had the best coach and assistant coach. Super friendly guys. They treated my son like any other player on the field. Equal time. Always willing to chat. They want him back and my son is super excited to play his final year.

These are the kind of people that give me hope for youth soccer.

I'm sure that many of you are the same type, just by seeing you on these boards debating the merits of our clubs and districts.

I know that I said sometimes I wish I was just a parent, but honestly I have interacted with so many great parents and players that this notion is pure folly and I am super honored to be able to do this every week.

Keep it up everyone!

I think we bring up a lot of negatives because we want to fix them. Otherwise we wouldn't care enough....or maybe we just like to bitch and moan...hahahahaha

And 100% agree with the bit about interacting with great parents and players - and coaches!

They are open with limits. 5 out of district kids MSL (is that right??) and 3 for lower levels. So there are limits. There should not be any.

Excellent that a resolution was found for your son! The tough part for people in my community is there is no real alternative. Kids can drive down the highway, certainly, but it takes it's toll over time and typically it's not something people enjoy doing.
