Quite honestly, I would hope that the appropriate body will reschedule any game that could be played, if at all possible. No one in Surrey and north has been able to get on a field in nearly a month, and there is no chance it is going to happen in the next 10 days either. It would be an unfair...
My U13 Boys had a tidy 3-1 win this weekend. Our opponent (a BC Tigers team) fought hard, but never really pushed into our end. They did exactly as their record shows...they score very few goals, but don't give many up, either. A game breaker up top would make a big difference for them.
As to...
There are some good points here. If Div 1 is in fact paying more, then perhaps some accommodation could be made, but no, I don't think that accommodation should be that they get turf time while Div 4 teams do not. Perhaps "1st pick" is reasonable, and a chance at a second spot once all teams...
I hate the way practice space is allocated at my club...we are a community club (supposedly), yet somehow the higher level clubs get preference while everyone else fights for the remains. In my opinion none of the teams (outside of perhaps HPL) should get more than 1 spot on turf until all...
still mostly playing teams we are better than. 5 of our 6 games have been against the bottom teams in our group, which means we should start seeing tougher games soon. I'm looking forward to truly seeing where we fit, as I still don't know for certain. I don't think we are awesome, but we are...
I do not disagree with anything that you said except the part where you said the players (and by extension the families) are not guilty of anything. Maybe promises and commitments don't mean what they once did, but they have most certainly broken both (according to RRS, at least). You would...
Unless there is some form of abuse here (and it doesn't sound like there is), the 8 players that left that team should not be allowed to play anywhere else this season. I am surprised that there isn't some form of binding of players to teams...in addition to coaching soccer I have also coached...
Ha! You totally get my pain (in particular wrt washing out practices...I HATE that)! And I completely agree that part of my role as a Div 4 coach is to have kids move up. As yes, it hurts, and prevents us from moving up as a team, but ideally all players should find the level to which they...
I completely agree. However we phrase it, we do want teams to be competitive week-over-week. The problem is when a "house" team becomes better than a "selected" team...parents of the selected team don't like if their team has to move down.
Keep in mind that I do not know any of the teams at U18, I coach U13. But if you want me to take a run at it, I will (also note that I did not disagree with your suggestion, just with your categorization of Div 4 as somehow different than Div1-3 vis-a-vis their level of seriousness). In...
I disagree with your categorization of the 4 levels you describe as something other than "fun". And I coach a div 4 team and we hate byes and off-weeks.
I have always thought that sort of mentoring is very worthwhile. Great idea.
And like you, I simply won't put up with a player complaining about a teammate in that way. I like your approach very much.
Winning is marginally important, but not critically so. It isn't what keeps kids playing, but it is, after all, the point of the game. But we focus on the process, not the result (if we do the right thing consistently, we will get the results we want). My goal every year is to make sure all...
