UBC Okanagan end weekend with a split after Timberwolves rally from previous night’s loss.

KELOWNA, BC - In the 56th minute, Timberwolves Brandon Wallace's goal provides UNBC with their first win of the season at the expense of host UBC Okanagan in a Canada West men's soccer match at the Nonis Sports Field. The T'wolves took the match with a 1-0 shutout over the Heat in Kelowna on Saturday night.
A miss timed pass by a UBC Okanagan defender allowed Wallace to finish the chance past a charging Heat keeper giving the Timberwolves a lead they would not relinquish.
UNBC captain Tofa Fakucle was instrumental in his team's victory, he was persistent and created ample scoring opportunities for his team and managed three attempts himself. His creativity was key in the Timberwolves forcing the error in the Heat backfield that led to the winning goal.
Mitch MacFarlane, playing in goal on Saturday night for UNBC was vocal and commanded his team from the backline, he turned away all five of the UBC Okanagan attempts on the night.
UBC Okanagan enjoyed the majority of the possession throughout the match and finished with 12 shots compared to just nine for UNBC. The Timberwolves put seven on net compared to just five for the Kelowna squad.
Heat forward Luke Warkentin's hard work provided him with three strong occasions at finding the back of the net. He found himself in the right spot on the end of a great pass from Heat midfielder Manny Straith's cross in the 54th minute, unfortunately his volley was hauled in by the out stretched arms of goalkeeper Macfarlane.
Rookie, Kieran Large, of UBC Okanagan, made an instant impact off the bench dinging the post on one occasion.
After the pair of intense and physical matches both squads end the weekend with an identical (1-3-0) record.
The Timberwolves will return home to play the UFV Cascades next Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 26-27).
The Heat's 4-game homestand comes to an end and UBC Okanagan will continue their campaign, this Friday September the 25 on the road against UVic at Centennial Stadium at 7:15 p.m. Then on Saturday at Thunderbird Stadium on Saturday night in a rematch of last year’s Canada West quarter-finals against the UBC T'Birds.
GAME NOTES: The Heat have lost three games this season and have been shutout in all three. (1-0, 2-0, 1-0). This is the second straight year these two teams split their season series.
