Four District is much bigger from this September on. Ty City has joined Four District Soccer, soccer in this area can only get better. Mega clubs will win out at the end of it all due to better skill and number of better players on each side. Smaller clubs will have to do way more to show better results. This should help Metro soccer this year. I still do not understand why they let Teck- Directors run two clubs at the same time. In my opinion it should be only one club for soccer to be more fair to all the kids. BC Soccer always pushes fairness I do not think Burnaby should get away with it. Smaller clubs would have better chance to do better. Any of you guys agree or do not agree about fairness in youth soccer.

Tri-Cities? Coquitlam et al? Great! No more drives across the bridge. Now to just get TSA/Ladner into 4-district where they should be!

But why would this make MSL better? Same players, same teams.

Try City has lots of X players coaching. These guys will get a chance to coach in Four District it will be big help to youth in Four District. Any program is as good as a coach doing it. Port Moody has improved tons since Johnny came to that club. In this area lots of fathers coach most played low level soccer some none. TKBC push to get the gold level to join Metro soccer. With better coaches those kids would improve way more. Over all I am happy to see Four District grow. Cost of going over the bridges is pain in the but.

Again, same players same coaches - district 4 or district 5 makes no difference. There are not more coaching opps just because they switch districts.

Gold should definitely not join Metro. Metro should reduce in size, I believe, to a max of 12 teams.

Thanks TKBC I did not think to join at the same level. I do think kids would develop faster by playing better kids from Surrey Langley and White-Rock in a gold level format. Feeder system to Metro soccer would be better.
Local club board guys hold everything back to give their kids a place at higher level most are only good for upper house level.
For most coaches time is waste to coach a kid that does not have ability to run. I left youth for senior soccer due to that alone.
In senior level you will end-up on a level you belong. Guys do not put up with none sense.

Total-Base -- unfortunately a little too much "inside-baseball" references (i.e. about 1 TD running 2 clubs, Burnaby should not get away with it, etc) being referred to so a lot of stuff that doesn't mean anything to me :-(

But there is another thread on this forum that might affect your discussion about Tri-Cities (TCYSA) moving from 5DL to 4DL. That being a mega-merger starting with 4DL and 5DL this fall season, then BCCGSL (my kids play in this already lower-mainland-wide league), then Metro, then HPL too. My contacts (a club pres, a league manager (not 4DL or 5DL) have told me this *is* in the works, pushed by several districts. Of course it's going to be complicated and likely not easy for the farther-in-future stuff (Metro & HPL additions). And why there isn't more public notice, or discussion about this "mega merger" is puzzling....

And something else that might be interesting for bcsoccercentral fans -- if you go to the 5 District Soccer League URL (5dsl.ca) which now shows as 2 District Soccer League – 2 District Soccer Leagues for U10 to U12 Boys now, it says:

"2 District Soccer League"
"2 District Soccer Leagues for U10 to U12 Boys" and
"The 2 District Soccer League starts in September and includes South Fraser, Fraser Valley and Alouette for U10 and U12 boys only".

The rest of 5DSL.ca site still has references to 5 District League, like the "Districts and Clubs" page for example. Strange/curious.

2 district? Interesting. Why would u10-12 need a separate "district" from the rest of the Fraser Valley?

Anyway, merging D4-5 is fine, so long as they continue to pair divisions by geographic areas. This would mean Chwk and TSA no longer have to play, makes perfect sense. but now TSA could play Richmond, which also makes perfect sense.

I didn't think the districts were involved on sanctioning leagues below u13. The 2D league is most likely an initiated created local clubs with the blessing of their respective districts.

That's my guess too - the clubs, Chilliwack-Abby-LU-LFC all work together from what I can tell pretty closely with the u9-10's so it would make sense for them to extend that collaboration to include u11-12, especially with now a Fraser Valley East and West metro system - invite Maple Ridge into the mix, and improve everyone's district competition.

Southsloper all this really means nothing. If District Four and Five get as one all that means dads and mothers will drive all over the place. Our development still lacks in three big areas. If we took a gold team to play three clubs over the boarder than you would get what I am talking about. Pace of the game is low. Movement off the ball is way slow. Finishing is under 10% .All this leads to huge number of turn-overs, net result we just do not make it to higher levels. As you can see one or two in last five to ten years have made it. We have good numbers in youth program we just need coaches with way higher abilities. Getting paper from BC Soccer will result in nothing more than in fights amongst coaches and some board members.
BC must try to put together summer program for kids free, to get the best players and not kids that can pay yet have very low athletic ability. BC is getting fulled by HPL, in short time they will see that it is not what they think.
I have seen HPL coaches and I have seen development coaches. Guy called Zico is by far above all of them, yet the guy is looking from outside in. BC guys must have a guy out to watch and learn. Grab good coaches and start new program for free. Province this size should have ten guys getting payed jobs each year. It is not there. Rob in BC soccer knows the game he must stop all this non-seance . Our kids deserve better. High pace or nothing. Use PCSL as our summer league for kids and seniors. It will grow and be way better than what we have now.

So TC joining the 4d is 100% happening? I'm just suprised there hasn't been more chatter about this like a press release or something. Maybe got to wait until August when the season gets closer.

In my limited time looking into the state of youth soccer in this region, I would say don't be surprised one iota on "communication challenges".

I said that as nice as I could.

Probably hasn't been confirmed. This sort of thing would surely require a special AGM no? If it does require a special AGM then the sufficient notice is required.

But ya, they'll be working on divisions, schedules etc and won't want to announce anything until details are mostly or all sorted.

Indeed - can also see it coming about simply by people looking at the schedules and saying "we don't play Surrey this year!?"...lol

Being at the far end of the valley and coaching u11-12 teams generally I think it's wise for Tri-Cities to join district 4 - teams that age should not be driving that far for games (not in the current Euro style one-day, one-game set-up).

But at the older ages when games are 80-90 minutes and registrations drop, having TC in d5 made perfect sense and increased competition. But, we have to adapt to the needs of our communities. So we can all expect more change over the next 10 years as demographics change as well.

On the flip side, I can see 4d teams seeing the schedule in late August & see that for ex there team is playing away to Port Coquitlam & be like "what the heck is this, must be a mistake"

Let's hope the information gets properly communicated in a timely manner.

Actually @easoccer, your teams may still play TCYSA teams -- if indeed 4DL and 5DL are merging for this coming season (see earlier in this topic, also a separate discussion thread on 4DL-5DL merger). I and at least one other member of this forum have asked contacts within their club (or league) who have said it is supposed to happen. Maybe more bcsoccercentral readers who are interested, could contact their clubs or districts to further confirm (or dispel) this news.

well if the two districts merge, they had better still keep it all regionalized. I think a merger may make for better more regionalized divisions actually (ie, Delta-Richmond etc in same div).
