So looking at this weather & how it doesn't seem to be going away anytime soon, does Feb look like a realistic start up??

Predictions that the 4d get the standings up before first kick off of 2017..? Haha

Games will be played before February barring an exceptional winter.

You have to figure the next two weeks will be called off. I don't see no rain in the forecast & isn't it supposed to snow again on Friday? I'm projecting we will resume Jan 28 if we're lucky.

Is that for real or are you kidding? And if it's real, what would that mean for teams that are scheduled to play you? Would those games have to be played (even though no one else can train?). Enquiring minds want to know!

That's for real - that's Dugald Morrison Park at noon yesterday. We have a full slate of home games that I think should get played. I would guess that the other districts will probably see games made up up on the first makeup weekend, Jan 21.

Unless the leagues just arbitrarily move this weekend's matches to Jan 21...

All fields in the City of Surrey are closed. -
This includes all Turf fields - Hjorth Road has over a foot of snow on the ground. Cloverdale , Newton , South Surrey have anywhere from 2 inches to around 6 inches

Quite honestly, I would hope that the appropriate body will reschedule any game that could be played, if at all possible. No one in Surrey and north has been able to get on a field in nearly a month, and there is no chance it is going to happen in the next 10 days either. It would be an unfair advantage for the team that has been able to workout. Since there is a spot in the schedule to move those games to, I would hope that happens, even though the fields are playable in South Delta (note that this has no effect on my team...just an interested observer). We are not lacking in sun, but we definitely have way too much snow, Rich!

Dont forget 80 percent rule. I would hope they dont cancel, but as others said move the games to one of the 3 open weekends.

Richmond Boys just tweeted that 4 District has cancelled all games this weekend. I'm more curious about Metro. Would expect the same (but hopefully postponed, not cancelled).

That makes the most sense, to move everything to Jan 21. Will definitely lead to tight scheduling with all of the District playdown games as well.

I would suggest we are already experiencing an exceptional winter.

It's not exceptional - we've had plenty of years like this. Even just a few years ago when fields were closed due to extreme cold. However, I just watched the news and more deep freeze and snow this week. But will we be playing by February? I imagine yes.

If the home team can play on their pitches then yes, games are played. Even if it's not necessarily fair or safe to the opposition (who likely haven't trained much if at all).

A few yeas ago I remember missing one week of games due to fields belong closed for extreme cold. I remember a different year where we had field closed for snow cover but nnot lasting as long as this.

You must have a short memory or live in sunny South Delta then ;)

Last year there was a lot of rain closures for those who were on grass mostly. If you had turf or the away team had turf you may not have been affected.

The year before there were several weekends where the grounds were too frozen to play. Usually it only affected teams expected to play before 12-1pm.

Overall, in all the years I've coached I have missed 1 or 2 league games due to weather, but funny enough never had any games made up.

I have had 1 or 2 cup games cancelled and rescheduled.

I will say that I have never experienced a span of 2-3 months where games are regularly cancelled like this year. My sons u18 team has 6 games on record. No games made up. They played the 3 top teams and are now in the very bottom division for cup. They are a much better team than they had a chance to show.

Anyway. There is so much ice on the fields in Surrey it will take a lot of rain and/or really warm temps to get us playing any time soon.

I think it is going to vary City to City. According to the District of North Vancouver Fields twitter page they appear to have done an amazing job and actually cleared their fields on a continuous basis and will be good to go as soon as the cold snap finishes/we get a day of light rain.

On the other hand New Westminster only has 2 artificial turf fields and one of them currently has an accumulation of 16" of snow (see below) - which makes the prospect of soccer before February at those locations very doubtful.

I can't remember a year when we haven't lost games due to bad weather. This has been the most extreme, but every november-december it get's too cold to play. I wonder how many 5 year olds we've lost this year.
