Protecting One's Own Turf - BCSPL and White Cap's Showcase

The White Caps refuses to let any teams outside BCSPL participate in their showcase tournaments, to the detriment of soccer in this province. My son's Metro team has now proven repeatedly that they stack up well against just about any BCSPL team. Within the last two months this team has played...

    BCSPL / Island Wave

The Island's U17 BCSPL team just folded. Not sure if this is a warning bell for the franchise as a whole or not. Might want to look into that.

    Is Futsal really needed?

Aside from improving foot skills and quick release, kids of all ages love it. It makes a great change in the middle of a rainy soccer season.

    BCSPL v Metro Soccer v DIV 1

Would never put my kid back in SPL. He gets as good a quality of coaching on his particular Metro team, and do not believe anyone who tells you that only SPL level players are eligible for scholarships.

    Best Academy?

A bit out of date, but I only know one player who attended the Barcelona academy and they were not happy with the experience. Not sure how good it is.

Best Young Players in BC / Canada

Not only that, but may I point out there are some Metro teams equally as good as some of the HPL teams, which are denied access to this tournament. Yes, folks, the White Caps will not allow a Metro level team to enter their tournament. Why should a Metro team that has shown through game results...

Why No Metro Players on BC Provincial Teams?

You are probably right - in a soccer nation good players will be identified and eventually find their way up the ranks, maybe even to the top of the pile.

    BCSPL v Metro Soccer v DIV 1

Not completely true from my experience and from what I see. SPL is mainly about the winning. Coaches choose players who are for the most part big and strong. Some are also very skilled but others are not. And smaller, skilled players are often cut simply because they are not up to the task...

    BCSPL v Metro Soccer v DIV 1

Same U15 Metro team I referred to above just won their league title again for a second year in a row. And each and every one of these boys are for all intents and purposes is denied a crack at the provincial team while crappy bottom-level U15 SLP teams all get to send two boys each to the...

Why No Metro Players on BC Provincial Teams?

Yes, I agree with you. It doesn't really matter what is written on paper because we all know that Metro players face a road block to being considered for a BC Provincial team, with good players occasionally overlooked as a result. Case in point - my son's U15 Metro team yesterday played an...

What if your school doesn't have soccer?

I believe he can, although the coaching may not be that good compared to his local club.

Why No Metro Players on BC Provincial Teams?

There is nothing intrinsically wrong with the Metro league and I do not favour dropping it. There is an overlap of talent with the BCSPL, just like there is between Metro and Div 1. A top Metro team would find it more or less a waste of time to be pooled together with some of the worse Div 1...

Best Young Players in BC / Canada

Agree with you that 17 and 18 year olds don't have many options for playing in this country. And the White Caps "route" is a waste of time since the chance of landing a spot are next to nil and will put you in the poor house along the way. Unfortunately, at this point in time a player with...

Why do we put our kids through this?

You're right, training in freezing cold weather is not as conducive to improving one's game as playing in warmer weather. One excuse that I hear for us playing during the winter is competition for field time in other seasons but I don;t really buy this since other regions of the country manage...
