Weather was hit and miss throughout the weekend - how did your team do if they played?

still mostly playing teams we are better than. 5 of our 6 games have been against the bottom teams in our group, which means we should start seeing tougher games soon. I'm looking forward to truly seeing where we fit, as I still don't know for certain. I don't think we are awesome, but we are clearly better than awful!
On the bright side, we managed to get our game in during a dry spell on Saturday.

We played LUS in u16 div 2.

It went as expected.

5-0 L.

They have a good team. I would say the balance of the team is equal to mine in skill, but they are much bigger. The also have 3 very offensive minded players at the front they can kick and run to. Big, fast, and can finish. 2 breakaways and 3 rebound goals off of excellent saves. 3 goals were in the first 5 minutes. Then we settled down and the game was close after that.

Now, one thing that really stood out was the parent support. Their coaches set up on the other side of the field, and I guess their rule is to have the parents on the opposite side, so they were right next to us. They had so many parents on my side I couldn't think. Seriously maybe 2 parents for each kid, and some siblings too. That is some excellent support. But then again, it must be fun getting continual high scoring games with clean sheets.

Onto the next week.

We lost 9-0 to CMF Apollo who are easily a top 3 Metro team but CMF decided not to have a U18 Metro team this year , so this team and the Ravens team are by far stronger than the other 5 teams.

Watched some other games :
Dist 5 u17 Div 4 - CCB Warriors 0 v CMF 6 - brilliant display of skill & athleticism by CMF
Dist 5 U18 Div 2 - NDS Utd 3 v PCE River Plate 1 - Very competitive /physical game that deserved a tied score as PCE had alot of pressure but missed their chances.

We had a nice win against Chilliwack 4-1 (1-1 at half). Really could've gone either way. Our keeper stopped a PK and they hit 2 or 3 posts. They had us on our heels for a good portion of the first half. We picked it up in the 2nd. I'm not sure they had any subs, and then a late red (2 yellows - dissent) with the score 3-1 didn't help them.
Good game, the type I like to coach. 2 teams playing hard in an even game.

Your boys will do just fine your not playing the German national team;)

We had a tough week 9-2 loss. Played a much bigger faster side who consistently bypassed the midfield and put long ball after long ball over our defenders (striker was unbelievably fast). Didn't have the speed to keep up. Didn't help that we also gave up 2 penalty shots and had to borrow a div 3 goalie (my regular goalie wasn't able to play) who refused to come off the line which could have prevented a few. It is what it is but I don't believe the score reflected the actual play. This weekend can't come fast enough to get back on the pitch!

Hopefully you don't have to resort to call ups and your strongest defenders come out. Certainly you don't need my advice, but if you can, Identify the offensive threat and mark. We were not able to cope with their size and speed and this was our downfall. They don't really play much possession, they chip the ball over and run onto it, and there is always at least 3 ready to go, so it's hard to guess who its going to. They are also very willing to shoot from anywhere. Rebounds cant be left. They are very good at jumping on those.

Good luck.

I meant it when I said I'm looking forward to it...I'm always up for a challenge! :D It's why we enter Coastal Cup playdowns. We know we'll come up against Div 1 teams, but the competition is good for the boys, especially going into League Cup play. And more games are always better!!

When I have a game like the one you just had, I always wish for mid week game to get right back at it!

If we're "on" we should be OK. We just can't zone out... need to match their speed and intensity.

Regarding parents, I thought there was a 5-District rule that parents need to be on the same side as their team to keep sides seperated (when the field layout permits). Maybe that's just a Delta District rule...and all depends how each club, or even referee, enforces it.

Come on Herv. They 100% do not belong in Div 2. There is no hiding the fact. The record is very clear. Shame on them for not seeking promotion.
Agreed , there,s many teams in Dist 5 playing way below their level and its about time the Dist 5 Leage enforces the changes to the Divisions if they seriously are thinking about the kids. Can,t be fun for those teams who are being blown away every weekend

Was only joking around. After the fact indeed they should be div 1. When we decided to move up we were on the fence as its hard to know for sure if your making the right decision.
That being said we made the right one (even with a 9-2 loss under our belt;)

Flip side of this are the teams playing above their level. If they're getting blown out every week, they need to be dropped, from a competitive stand point. I don't mean being 0-6 and and losing every game 1-2 or 1-3, but being 0-6 and getting your arses handed to you by 7-8 goals each game. Why some of those teams are left up is beyond me...

If you win half your games you are where you should be. It does look like you made a good call.

I would agree with that statement and goes as far as saying if you win 30-40% your likely at correct level. Looks like you made the right decision for your team as well (especially since you have got your wca and Lusa games already in. We always had a tough go with both those teams.

We played Labor day and Thanksgiving tournaments and went 2-2 in both. We are sitting at 7W 8L since going into Div 2. I'm happy with the performance. The kids are happy. It's really hard managing parent expectations. My group is exceptionally difficult with many suggestions on how I should do things, and comments on things I'm doing wrong. OH the joys of coaching. Many days I feel like retiring to the parents side of the field. LOL

We all deserve a raise! What's 100% of zero? :p;)
