Not the greatest weather for soccer, even with our normal rain season in full effect, but if your teams did manage to play, how did you do?

Still no standings for 4 district and it appears no future scheduling updates in place other than to say no league games this upcoming weekend as it is first round of cup play.

I watched my son's U13 Metro team (North Van) tie Richmond 1-1. Lots of rain and strong winds. Lots of parents umbrellas being blown backwards. My son scored a nice header. Unfortunately on his on goal. He said later that the wind pushed the ball away from him. Tough luck. It was nasty but both teams toughed it out. Everyone scattered for thier vehicles at the final whistle.

My boys played @rich team in South Delta. Yes it was rainy. Yes it was wet. I was an am sick as a dog. I'm sure this is mild compared to whats coming in late Dec early Jan.

My boys always seem up to playing the division leaders, but lack motivation when we are up against teams below us in the standings. They look at the results based on teams we played in common and think it will be a walk in the park. I am trying to teach them that each team is strong and not to be fooled by the standings. I am unsure how to approach our lack of consistency going forward.

We are pretty good defensively, allowing only 6 goals in 4 games (2 games against division leaders), but suffer on offence with 5 goals in the same span.

SDU played very well. They were able to break down our 3-2-3-2 with wide passes on a regular basis and my players were not able to adjust for it. SDU beat us to every ball. They scored first on a winger passed a day dreaming goalie. LOL We are able to make some adjustments, switching to 4-3-3 for the latter part of the game, and maintained quite a bit of pressure, but we were not able to overcome the early deficit. I do feel there were also a couple of questionable calls, but that's part of the game.

SDU was fully deserving of the 2-1 win.

3-2-3-2? What age and level are your players?

Re: inconsistency - that's a difficult one. Sometimes it's just in a teams make-up/DNA to be inconsistent. My suggestion - keep an eye on how they are training the week before an "easy" game. Make sure the standards are just as high as any other week. Don't be afraid to bench players at kick off who haven't trained well. Don't be afraid to sit players who are not performing with an adequate amount of "effort" in the match (but give them adequate playing time! - not an easy balance lol).

We play u16. Div 2.

We normaly play 3-2-4-1. But we wanted to try the defenders up front again this week. Needless to say it was a pair of individual efforts from them this time with no impact.

We also added two new players (within last 2 weeks) that we rotated in. They have potential but arent fit and made some mistakes.

The poor play usually starts in warmup. Then it carries over to the 1st part of the game. We seem to find our form in the second and the game outcome is generally decided my who scores first.

Oh and for the 3-2-3-2, think of it as 4-4-2 with a double diamond in the middle.

Thing I hate about the standings, is that results can be so skewed by the teams that you've played. WCA, who was...2nd? last year... may have been our best game, and we lost 0-5...they scored on their 5 shots. including a PK. Possession and chances were even.

Your lads played well - your keeper had a very strong game!

True, when we played WCA we were leading 1-0 for 75% of the game. Then we missed a penalty shot failing to go up 2-0, and then bam 3 goals in our net. But, I wont be fooled, that is a strong team, physical, and very good at crossing into the box.

PMO is another very good team, and we beat them twice at 1-0. But, we hung onto our defense and we able to put 1 in each game while keeping them of the sheet.

It's our first year in Silver and we are still trying to find our footing. We have some good athletes, and good defense, but lack the possession and passing game. We also need to find that scoring touch. These things we are actively working on.

Hopefully we can start out strong against ASA this coming weekend.

PMO was another strong game for us, with no finish. Tied 1-1 until late, they scored a great free kick goal - top corner from 25 yards. Scored the 3-1 goal at the last whistle as we pushed everyone up on a corner kick to try and tie it.

Other than the LUS Metro team :) and maybe WCA it looks like the division is pretty competitive this year.

Yeah, not sure what to make of that LUS side. They've run away with the division for the last 2 years...look well on their way to doing it again.

Hopefully there are very few dinosaurs left that judge youth teams based only on results.

And to completely contradict myself based on the standings and reading LUS has won the league 2 years in a row....why the heck are they (and WCA) still in div 2? Win a league 2 years in a row there should be no choice but to get promoted from Div 2 to 1 unless there was huge roster change for year 3.

30 goals in 4 games is just nuts. Certainly they will be moved up. And mark my words they will be in the top half of div 1 by dec.

Lets see who prevails this coming weekend as LUSA plays WCA. Tough test for both teams.

They've scored 100 goals the last two years (51 & 49) and that's only in the Sept -Dec games.
17W, 3D, 3L in that time. (one of those draws was 4-4 against my group last year)

Hey gentlemen, hope all is well. Figured I would add some context to the discussion as our Langley team also played div 2 the last 2 seasons in this age group and we decided to move up to div 1 this year for a greater challenge. The other langley team you mentioned has done very well the last two season but lost a few very strong players and had several few players join. I know they played a tourney at the div 1 level but had some struggles which may have supported their decision to remain at division 2. Sometimes it can be hard to judge what the appropriate level of play when your not sure what other teams will look like. Considering we moved up to div 1 I believe our club was hesitant to register 3 groups at the same level as well. I know this is a similar story for westcoast with quite a few players pulled up from Division 3. Hope the season is going well for you Rich and Elton.
