Let's hope there are some moves made ...

How much fun do you think this team is having :
4 games, 0 wins and 4 losses, 19 goals against and 0 goals for

And how much do you think this team is learning :
4 games, 4 wins and 0 losses, 30 goals for and 0 goals against

There are definately some moves to be made. It would be nice if they could look over the past 2 seasons if there are teams on the fringe.

Last year only the top and bottom moved. I wonder if this is voluntary, do clubs have to put teams forward? Can team request to stay put?

2nd year in a row we are 2nd place going into tiering (undefeated, 13-1-1 over last two seasons in league play). 1st place gets the team with 18 goals against in the first 2 games. I wish they would tier after 5 or something. Looks like we'll get stuck again.

Oh well.

Don't go just on w-l record. Last year my team was 0-0-5 at thanksgiving with an equally bad GD. We ended up winning for months on end, a few cups, and a great spring tournament season....you have to know that each team has it's own story.

Looks like they have started to work on it. U16 Div 1 has been completely reset with an A&B group.

Above stats are for U17 Langley Utd Smith

I posted about the 2 strong teams in U17 Div 2 - Langley Utd Smith & Ladner - both should be in Div 1 after Thanksgiving . Chilliwack should be moved down to Div 2 .

Yeah I notice they've wiped the first four weeks of the season as well... interesting. Hopefully there are lots more changes to come. As above, Ladner and Langley should move up and create two groups of D1 like in U16.

Sometimes we play District 4 teams in tournaments so I like to keep an eye on those teams throughout the year. I personally like this method of wiping the preseason off and starting fresh after Thanksgiving. No one has an advantage that way. I also like that D4 has G1 G2, S1 S2, etc. We should go back to that IMHO. This way teams can play against better matched opponents. If you look in each group it is very likely that the top half, and the bottom half are quite a bit apart.

If a team moves into another division creating an odd number of teams, the number of byes may not be evenly distributed. It would seem most fair that the team moving into a new division experience the most byes in the remaining season. Do you know if this is taken into account in scheduling?

Usually teams are moved if there is a candidate to move up, and one to move down. There is too much havok created on the schedule if a single team is moved. Usually they just swap places and the teams take over each others schedule. Maybe this year will be different? Especially if they are wiping the slate so to speak.

Thanks for your reply - two years in a row now we have had a single team added to our division making the number odd and creating bye weeks.

The scores should not be wiped off as teams put alot of effort in the early part of the season which will go to waste. In U17 Div 1 the schedule is done until Dec with a team having a bye each week. I think just 1 team Langley should move up and Chwk down.

I'd like to see all the teams that play aimless hoof and hope with screaming coaches get moved to any other division....;):D

Agree with the concept that one team moves up, one moves down, although I could see two up / one down if it does not give anyone two byes...hands up those of you who are happy not to be the one figuring this crap out...:D

I look at the the first 3-4 pre-tiering games as pre-season. They dont really mean that much. I have talked to boys directors at away games who were friendly enough to come up and talk to me, and other coaches, who have told me there are teams within their clubs that honestly want to move up and play higher levels, and that there are also teams that want to clean up so they request to be placed in the lower brackets and then proceed to get 30 goals with zero against. These early season scores do nothing for the overall benefit of these young players. Sure the teams who are destroying others feel great, but again thats not really a benefit to anyone else.

I agree...and those early games can be all over the place. When I coached U13 in Burnaby many many moons ago, we won our 2nd game of the season 11-0 vs West Vancouver. At the end of the year, we finished in second place, to that same West Van team, who beat us the 2nd time we met. Early games are really a crap shoot, except for those teams you mention who just want to clean up.

If a team is fortunate enough to have a player than is faster than any other on the field and you want to play the penetrating pass as your main source of attack then it's all good to me. As a coach I have learned this can be mostly controlled by man marking. Not every team is going to play tiki-taka like Barcelona.

There's a big difference between playing penetrating passes to a fast striker, and aimlessly smashing balls up the field in the hopes that a teammate get on the end of a couple of them. Every single time the coach screaming "SEND IT!! SEND IT!! SEND IT!!!"

There are usually late registrations coming in. Sometimes you can get a game changer 3rd game in. Teams can get up to 5 players to transfer in/out prior to cup play. There is only a one league game minimum before a player can play for you at cup so things are always changing.

Guilty as charged then. If a team has no respect for my teams abilities, sends all but one or two defenders deep into my half, and I can sit one or two at the line, you can be sure I'm going to be calling this often.

For the longest time we played 4-2-3-1 and while our defence was very good with many shutouts it was tough to generate scoring chanes. We had to get to get the ball to that sinlge striker. This year we have settled on 4-4-2 and we are getting better chances and have to press less for those opportunites at the cost of defence.

Interesting u16 has two divisions. The last two years in u16-17 we had something like 16-18 teams in the league yet they kept it to just 1 league table - why are these things so seemingly random!?
